So I decided to plunge into the realm of keyless door locks. \u00a0For some reason I was really impressed with the Kwikset Kevo and I decided to get it.<\/p>\n

Let me just say that at the end of the day I was really disappointed with the device. \u00a0On paper it’s wonderful but when you dig deep and start using it you realize how flawed it is.<\/p>\n

Here are the reasons why I did not like this device and decided to go with something else (Hint hint, a z-wave solution):<\/p>\n

  1. It kinda feels cheap (Material, not the looks).<\/li>\n
  2. The capacitive touch is very sensitive, I accidentally brushed on it many times and activated it before the door was closed. \u00a0I now much prefer a physical button.<\/li>\n
  3. There’s a noticeable delay from the time you touch the ring to when it unlocks. \u00a0 Could take from 2 seconds up to 5. \u00a0Very annoying.<\/li>\n
  4. It sometimes doesn’t work when it’s in your pocket.<\/li>\n
  5. It only works on iPhones or the fob for now, BUT what they didn’t tell you is that you can’t even register it online without having an iphone.<\/li>\n
  6. If you only use the FOB, there is no entry log, \u00a0so say you give it to a maid, you won’t be able when they enter the house.<\/li>\n
  7. There is no way to remotely unlock the lock, it only works with Bluetooth. So say you forgot your phone and the key, you can’t just go to a neighbor and unlock the phone from a web portal.<\/li>\n
  8. There is no way to select schedule for the FOB only for electronic keys you send to a phone.<\/li>\n
  9. There’s no way to program the door to lock automatically at a specific time. \u00a0(I sometimes forget to lock my house, it’s a great assurance that the door is indeed locked when you go to sleep)<\/li>\n
  10. The reset button is big and very close to the other buttons, makes it really easy to erase all ekeys and FOB!<\/li>\n
  11. The thing is freakin noisy.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    What I liked:<\/p>\n

    1. Attractive design<\/li>\n
    2. You can re-key your old Kwikset keys. \u00a0Really handy. \u00a0(But the z-wave model from kwikset does it too)<\/li>\n
